Pattern 1: 1234

This is a simple pattern but it’s a great way to warm up your hands and to sync your picking and fretting hands together.

The pattern is 1234 and you’ll play it on each string from strings 6 through to 1 like this:

Pattern 2: 1243

If you have the previous pattern nailed then you can try this one which is 1243:

For many of you it’ll feel quite different to the previous one.

Now that’s good because you’ve just uncovered a pattern that you’re not totally familiar with which means your technique will improve a lot if you work on that weak spot you’ve just uncovered!

The Other Patterns

There are 6 different configurations starting with finger one.

There’s 1234, 1243, 1324, 1342, 1423 and 1432.

Here are the last four that we haven’t been through in-depth:

Then there’s six permutations starting with finger 2, six permutations starting with finger 3, and six permutations starting with finger 4.

Basically you’re starting with 1234, going through 24 permutations and then ending with 4321.

Outro

If you go through all those permutations, you’ll uncover a lot of weak spots and when you work on those patterns your technique can only improve drastically!
